city-of-washington-6

In regular business, the City Council passed a resolution moving $60,000 into the Street Department budget to pay for the Liquid Road street maintenance project. The Council also moved $1,000 in the City Attorneys budget from insurance to supplies. The Council also approved an inter-departmental loan of $400,000 from the Water Department to the Electric Department for 90 days. The utility department manager said the move was necessary because of the drastically increased cost of equipment in general and transformers for new developments.
In other business, the Council passed an ordinance establishing a Longfellow Park Grant Fund to allow the city to receive a $1,000 grant from the Community Foundation for improvements to the Longfellow Park softball field. The Council also introduced ordinances appropriating funds from the Go Bond funds and allocating the remaining ARPA funds received from the Federal Government.
The Council also approved the continuation of Eagle Railcar’s tax abatement. At the end of the meeting, the council heard from Historical Society President Monty Critchlow, who told the council about a program at the Miseum this Sunday by Tommy Kleckner of Indiana Landmark. The presentation will begin at 3 p.m.
Following the Council meeting, the Board of Public Works and Safety met and approved a request from Beth Gabhart, representing Discover Downtown, asking to close Main Street to traffic between State Road 57 and the Library on Saturday, August 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for a Color Run event.
