JASPER, Ind.– The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has authorized the Mid-States Corridor Project Team to begin the first Tier 2 study, focusing on the Dubois County area. This study aims to determine the specific alignment and access plan for the new highway, evaluate site impacts, and identify the preferred location and right-of-way needs for a 200- to 500-foot-wide facility.
The Tier 1 Final Environmental Impact Statement had previously identified the general 2,000-foot-wide corridor, which runs east of Huntingburg and Jasper. Section of Independent Utility (SIU) 2 extends from Interstate 64 around Huntingburg and Jasper to S.R. 56 at Haysville. The study of SIU 2 is expected to take approximately three years to complete. Initial activities will include survey work and data analysis. The project office, located on the Jasper campus of Vincennes University at 850 College Ave., Jasper, will resume office hours starting Thursday, July 25th.
The Mid-States Corridor Project will follow US 231 from Interstate 64, passing east of Huntingburg and Jasper, and extending north to connect to Interstate 69. Additional Tier 2 studies for the remaining SIUs have not yet been scheduled.
