In spite of ourselves, Hugh Eugene Cutsinger, passed away with his family by his side on June 27, 2024 in Vincennes, Indiana. In the end, he was our big door prize! Gene was born January 2, 1961 in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Mary “Candler” Cutsinger and Casey Cutsinger.
He was one of twelve children, surviving siblings include Brenda Gibson (James), Kathy Carpenter, and Ida Sanders. He was married to the love of his life, Sherry Cutsinger, for a month shy of 30 years. He was a father to Penny Cutsinger (Derek Page), Laura Jimenez (Juan), and Mary Westfall-Snyder (Ted Holmes). His greatest title, though, was being a Papaw to Hope Cutsinger (Camden Robertson), Bryton Shaner, Trista and Erik Kershner, Skylor Snyder, Jayce Jimenez (Mackenzie), and Ryker Holmes. He was recently promoted to great Papaw to Adeline Jimenez and Kali Robertson.
Gene worked at the Knox County Highway Department for several years. He enjoyed running the road grader and bossing the younger guys around! He also enjoyed the outdoors. He could be found building fires that could probably be seen from space, tinkering around outside, riding four wheelers and motorcycles, fishing, or camping at Shakamak State Park. He was a junk collector and a master negotiator that never turned down a good deal! He will be missed dearly by those he left behind.
He was in preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, Ricky, Casey, Jerry, William Cutsinger (John), and sisters Mary Frye, Linda Cutsinger, and Pearl Thurman.
There will be a visitation held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 4-7pm, with a Celebration of Life following immediately after, all held at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Homes, Bicknell Chapel with Pastor Jarrod Chattin officiating.
