Robert “Bob” Lawrence Delaney

Robert “Bob” Lawrence Delaney, 80, a resident of Washington, IN passed away May 24, 2024 surrounded by family. Bob was born in Beech Grove, Indiana and moved to Glendale shortly after with his family. He enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served onboard a submarine for 5 years. He attended Vincennes University and then Purdue University, where he graduated with an engineering degree. Bob was a resident of New Palestine, Indiana for most of his adult life before moving back down to Daviess County.
Bob was a avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed helping others discover the wonders of the nature. He loved traveling, hiking, horseback riding, reading, watching westerns, history, working out at the YMCA, coffee shops and telling stories (both real and embellished).
Bob is survived by his daughter Marie Elaine (Delaney) Gebhart and granddaughter Sydney Marie Gebhart of Greenwood; siblings Karen Williams of Evansville, Bill Delaney of Washington, Ken (Judeanne) Delaney of Cannelburg, Marcy (Charley) Abel & Marita (Uria) Wagler of Montgomery and John Barthel (brother in-law) of Texas, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, college friends, coffee buddies, and neighbors.
Bob was the eldest son and is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Pius Delaney and Ruth Elaine (Padgett) Delaney, sisters Barbara Barthel and Kay Rolley, and sisters-in-law Mary Jo Delaney and Trish Delaney.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 11-12pm followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Montgomery, Indiana. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s cemetery in Corning, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Patrick’s Cemetery Fund or the Corning Irish Heritage Center.
