Stephen Louis Murphy, 75, of Montgomery, Indiana passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024, at his residence.
He was born on November 13, 1948, in Washington, Indiana to Fred and Loretta (Haag) Murphy.
Steve graduated high school in 1966 and married Jeanie (Potts) on February 4, 1967. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery, Indiana. Steve was a volunteer fireman for over 54 years for Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department. He was a retired bricklayer with the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for 44 years. Steve enjoyed his daily visits to see his friends at the Knights of Columbus where he was a lifetime member. He loved NASCAR and eating at Red Lobster. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by all that knew him, especially his two beloved dogs, Konah and Petey.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Loretta Murphy, infant daughters, Shelly and Gina Murphy, grandson, Kendall Murphy, siblings, Virginia Moore, Jim Murphy, and in- laws, Tedd Davis, Mike Herring, and Joe Bassler.
Steve is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanie Murphy, their children, Dwayne (Katrina) Murphy, Shawn Murphy, grandchildren, Kelsie (Eric) Miller, Bryce Murphy, Bella Hollis, great – grandchildren, Emma, Halle, and Micah Miller, siblings, Marilyn Davis, Sharon Herring, Mary Jeanne Bassler, sister – in -law, Mary Murphy, brother- in – law, Al Moore, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery, Indiana from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the time of service at church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church celebrated by Rev. Sudhakar Bhastati. Burial will follow in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Viking Promise- Kendall J. Murphy Scholarship fund.
