Polly A Mead

Polly A Mead, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, dedicated legal secretary, and cherished volunteer, passed away on May 14, 2024. Born on December 10, 1931, in Worthington, Indiana, she married Marvin “Red” Mead on August 27, 1950 and he preceded her in death on April 3, 1991. Polly’s life was defined by her unwavering commitment to her family, work, community, and volunteerism.
She loved Christmas time and hosting her family.
Throughout her career, Polly served as a legal secretary in Pike, Greene, Daviess, and Martin Counties, working tirelessly for esteemed figures such as The Dillons, Hayes, Hayes and Smith,Harry Hanson, and Mary Goss. Her dedication and attention to detail made her an invaluable asset in the legal profession.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Polly devoted herself to various volunteer organizations, including Daviess Community Hospital Auxillary, RSVP, Powerhouse, Beta Sigma Phi, and BPW, Friends of the Library. Her selfless contributions left a lasting impact on those she served, embodying the true spirit of compassion and generosity.
In her leisure time, Polly found solace in reading and sewing, often creating beautiful baby blankets for her friends and the Pregnancy Center. She took great joy in playing with her extensive collection of toys, creating countless memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Polly’s legacy of kindness, warmth, and dedication will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held Friday, May 17, 2024 at Bethel Church -North from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and again on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Sugarland Memory Gardens.
Polly is survived by her children, Susan J. Mead of Washington, In., Peter (Sharon) Mead of Washington, In., and Julie Churchill of Denver, Co.; brother, Robert Paul Steward (Marilyn) of Newberry, Indiana; grandchildren, Kristin Ferguson, Jennifer Nettles, Kimberly (Reeve) DeLong, Erin Brown, Megan Churchill; great grandchildren, Taylor Ferguson, Aubrey Ferguson, Caleb Nettles, Brooklynn Nettles, Reid Nettles, C.J. Brown, Gabe Brown, Thomas DeLong, and Henry DeLong; and several nieces and nephews Polly is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Franklin and Roberta Frances Steward; her husband Marvin “Red” Mead; daughter, Peggy Reeve; son in laws, Gordon Reeve and Mike Churchill; and grandson, Jeffrey Churchill
As we honor Polly’s life and legacy, let us remember her with fondness and gratitude, celebrating the countless ways in which she enriched the lives of those around her. May her spirit of generosity and love continue to inspire us all. She gave love unconditionally. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Library or Helping Hearts Hospice. Goodwin- Sievers Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Polly.
