City of Washington Reminds Residents of Tree Trimming Regulations

As spring and summer approach, the City of Washington Street Department reminds the public of the regulations regarding tree trimming and cutting. According to City Ordinance Code 98.05, anyone hiring a contractor or individual for tree work must obtain a permit from the city administration before starting the job. It is the responsibility of the hired contractor or individual to clean up and remove all limbs and debris from the site, not the city’s. For homeowners or property owners doing their own tree work, limbs placed on the street or alley for pick-up must be neatly stacked with cut ends facing the street or alley. Stacks should not exceed 4 feet in height or 4 feet in length. Limbs and debris that are tangled or messy will be the responsibility of the property owner to untangle or discard for future pickup.
