The USDA Forest Service Conducts Prescribed Burns on Hoosier National Forest

The USDA Forest Service is conducting prescribed burning this spring on the Hoosier National Forest to maintain, restore, or improve wildlife habitat and ecosystems. Prescribed burns also reduce wildfire risk and increase plant diversity. Areas considered for burning will have signage placed in advance, and residents and businesses in the immediate area will be notified one or two days prior to a burn. Designated burn units are closed to the public on the day of the burn and until the area is safe. Smoke is an unavoidable consequence, but burns are planned to minimize its impact. Contact the Indiana Interagency Coordination Center Dispatcher at 812-547-9262 for more information or to report medical conditions affected by smoke.
