Indiana Youth Institute Report Shows Improvements in Child Well-being, Calls for Continued Efforts

A new report from the Indiana Youth Institute indicates an overall improvement in child well-being in the state. Despite this progress, the organization emphasizes the need for further efforts to enhance children’s health, education, and economic welfare. The report highlights positive trends such as increased graduation rates, which have risen from over 86 percent to nearly 89 percent. Indiana currently ranks 13th in the country in education. Additionally, there has been a decrease in the number of children in foster care, and the percentage of children without health insurance has dropped from nine percent to six percent. Tami Silverman, the president and CEO of the Indiana Youth Institute, acknowledges the state’s improvements in all categories measured but stresses the importance of focusing on areas like reading, math, and school retention. She also highlights the need to address high infant mortality rates and the significant number of child and teen deaths in Indiana.
