Indiana State Trooper Critically Injured in I-65 Collision

On January 20, at around 8:45 p.m., Indiana State Trooper Azariah Keith was critically injured when struck by a vehicle in Indianapolis. Trooper Keith had stopped on the left shoulder to assist a stranded motorist with a flat tire at the 116-mile marker. As Trooper Keith was finishing the tire change and the motorist was pulling away, a southbound vehicle lost control on the curve, striking Trooper Keith before colliding with the back of his police car. The incident involved a Chevrolet Equinox driven by 22-year-old Armaandeep Singh of Indianapolis. Singh, believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed, swerved around the trooper blocking the left lane, lost control, crashed into the concrete median barrier, and collided with Trooper Keith and his police car. Trooper Keith sustained critical injuries and was promptly attended to by the on-scene trooper. He was taken to a local hospital and is currently in stable but serious condition. Armaandeep Singh was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious bodily injury.
