Janet Sue Hembree, 85, of Loogootee, Indiana passed away at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Poplar Care Strategies.
She was born September 2, 1938 in Martin County, Indiana to Helen (Street) Padgett.
Janet was the Rutherford Township Trustee for 21 years and retired in 2013. She also assisted the former Martin County Assessor for many years. Janet was a member of the Loogootee Revival Center Church. She loved to cook and participate in Operation Christmas Child.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hembree Sr.; son, Jeff Hembree; mother, Helen Padgett; siblings, Phillip (Virginia) Street, Robert Street, Ruth Meyer, and Sandra (Robert) Bleemel; brother-in-law, Dave Qualkenbush.
Janet is survived by her children, Pastor Debra (Greg) Davis of Loogootee, Becky (Tom) Robertson and John (Cindy) Hembree Jr., both of Haysville; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; siblings, Harold (Lila) Street and Vicki Qualkenbush; daughter-in-law, Paula Hembree; brother-in-law, Gary Meyer.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 12, 2024 at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will follow in South Martin Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 11th, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
