Florence (Flo) Cavanaugh

Florence (Flo) Cavanaugh died December 16, 2023. She was born in Manhattan, New York on August 14, 1925 to Albert and Stella (Thal) Cohen.
On February 2, 1952 she married John (Jack) Patrick Cavanaugh of Washington, IN in Manhattan, Kansas. Jack preceded her in death in 1999.
Flo was an active member of the Washington Community. Flo was owner and editor of the Tri County News, served for seven years as the first woman on the Washington City Council, sixteen years on the Board of Directors of the Carnegie Library, eighteen years as a commissioner on the Washington Housing Authority and the Washington Parks Board. Flo was a charter member of the Daviess County Hospital Pink Ladies, and Monday Afternoon Club. She was also a volunteer member of the Arts and Flower Garden Club, RSVP Beta Zeta Chapter of Tri Kappa and Ladies Guild of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.
Flo is survived by her children, Michael Harward and John Patrick IV of Washington and Jan (Ron) Rogier of Boonville, IN, her grandchildren, Matthew John (Mathilde) Rogier of Paris, France and Katherine Elizabeth (Preston) Altstadt of Boonville, IN; great grandchildren, Maria Elizabeth Altstadt of Boonville, IN and Léon Jean Ronald Rogier of Paris, France; brother David (Gail) Cohen and sister Billie DeSisto of New York. Flo is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, sisters Julia Zappier, Estelle Keitz, Marian DeCarlo, and brother Oscar Cohen all of New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Paul Ferguson celebrating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Hope. Flo will be laid to rest next to her husband Jack in St. John Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Washington Carnegie Library. A special thanks to Daviess County Helping Hearts Hospice.
