Carmen Dee Whalen

Carmen Dee Whalen, 78, of Washington, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh on November 28, 2023, with her family by her side.
 
She was born on September 9, 1946, to the late Claude T. and Thelma F. (Brittain) Colvin in Jasper, Indiana.
 
In her younger years, Carmen enjoyed horseback riding and tap dancing. She attended Otwell School and years later she went on to earn her associates’ degree from Vincennes University, majoring in Nursing. Carmen worked several years as a nurse, and then started working in Phlebotomy at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis. She worked for many years at Community East before her retirement. She enjoyed playing Chinese checkers and euchre; especially with her grandchildren. In her later years, Carmen liked to have a good conversation and just “talk”. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
 
Those left to cherish Carmen’s memories include her daughter in law, Lana Voegerl (Mark Wilson) of Washington, IN; grandchildren, Kelsey Nicole Traylor (Jaden Farley) of Washington, IN, and Nicholas Allen Voegerl of Washington, IN; and her great-granddaughter, Faye Elizabeth Fisher.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude T. and Thelma F. Colvin; and her son, Kip L. Traylor.
 
Visitation for Carmen will be held from 11:00 – 1:00pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State St., Washington, IN 47501. Immediately following the conclusion of visitation, a service will begin promptly at 1:00pm. Following the service, Carmen will be laid to rest in Otwell, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Daviess County Animal Control Shelter, 213 S 200 W Washington, IN 47501.
