Oscar Sylvester Sanders

Oscar Sylvester Sanders, a devoted family man, and avid sports enthusiast, has peacefully passed on to another life at the age of 64 on October 12, 2023, due to a tragic accident in Bicknell, Indiana. Known for his loving and kind nature, he leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and dedication.
Born on June 2, 1959, in Vincennes, Indiana, Oscar was the son to Samuel “Sam” Sanders and Clara Tapley Sanders. He attended Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1978. Following his education, Oscar went on to join the workforce and had a long-term involvement with the United Steel Worker’s Union.
On a beautiful autumn day, October 25, 1980, Oscar married Dorothy Goodson.
Oscar was a proud father and grandfather and cherished every moment spent with them, for they were undoubtedly the apple of his eye. Hunting and fishing took on a new life as Oscar introduced his grandchildren to these treasured pastimes. Outside his family circle, Oscar found joy in the world of sports. An enthusiastic Dallas Cowboys fan, he was often found cheering them on during each game.
For over 25 years, he lent his strength and courage to Vigo Township as a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and later became a driver for the Knox County EMS.
Oscar’s hobbies mirrored his down-to-earth personality. Beyond watching sports and fishing with his grandchildren, he had a knack for refurbishing things. Golfing was another cherished pastime.
Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar’s loving spirit continues to live on in his wife, Dorothy, their children, Chris and Lori Sanders, Eric and Laura Sanders, and Tyler and Kristi Sanders and his beloved grandchildren, Joel, Carson, Avery, Braylen, MaKyla, and Emma. Siblings, Charlotte Hansen, Sam Sanders (Rita), Gary Sanders (Marie), Dute Sanders (Janet), Sandy Evans (Steve), Frank Toole (Diane), and Jenne Toole, and many nieces and nephews. His warm, loving nature and the compassionate impact he had on those around him will continue to be cherished and celebrated.
Oscar was also preceded in death by; mother and farther-in-law Lorene and Herschel Goodson, his godson and nephew, Gary Wayne Sanders, a brother, Jim Toole, and a brother-in-law, Mark Hansen.
There will be a visitation/service on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Vincennes First Baptist Church, 2625 Wabash Ave, Vincennes, IN 47591 from 12 P.M. until the time of service at 3 P.M. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
