A Mitchell man is in custody on an arson charge after a fire at 504 West Oak Street in Mitchell. The incident led to the evacuation of the building on Friday evening, fortunately with no reported injuries. Authorities, including the Mitchell Police, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, and Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, conducted an investigation that resulted in the arrest of 35-year-old Justin Bowden. He now faces a Level 4 felony charge of arson. Residents affected by the fire received assistance from the Red Cross during this challenging time. The fire, combated by the Mitchell and Marion Township Volunteer Fire Departments, kept responders busy for several hours.
