Time is running out for businesses and individuals to secure their spot on the donor recognition wall planned for the Commons in downtown Washington. Bob Grewe, the Executive Director of Daviess County Economic Development, reveals that the wall’s design is slated to commence before the year’s end. Mayor Dave Rhoads reports that the construction of the Commons is progressing as planned. He notes that much of the work so far has been preparatory and largely unseen, but this will change in the next three months as above-ground construction gets underway. Donations are managed through the Common Heritage Fund, overseen by Our Community Foundation, and established by the Daviess County Economic Development Foundation. The fund is designed to facilitate the Commons’ construction and upkeep through private-sector donations. Currently, it holds $123,090 in contributions and just over $375,000 in promises. Community backing for growing the fund and sponsoring the project has come from both individuals and businesses. Early supporters, like the Derrick Clarke Family, have expressed their dedication to the project and its potential for the community. Businesses such as TrueScripts, German American, Williams Bros/True Rx, NASCO, Crane Credit Union, Daviess Community Hospital, Jones and Sons, Donaldson and Sellers, Gwaltney Drilling, and Thompson Insurance have also stepped forward to back the project.
