Elementary School Principal Placed on Unpaid Leave in Vermillion County

A principal at Central Elementary School in Wabash Valley, Ryan Jenkins, has been put on unpaid leave. The South Vermillion School Board issued a statement explaining the decision. The unpaid leave, which began on Tuesday, will last for 20 days. According to Superintendent David Chapman, this action was taken in compliance with the South Vermilion Board of School Trustees and NEOLA policy. Jenkins is scheduled to return to his role on October 31. While the details of the disciplinary action were not disclosed due to it being a personnel matter, the school board stated that Jenkins was found to be in violation of two board policies: Board Policy 3122, “Drug-Free Workplace,” and Board Policy 3139, “Staff Discipline.” It’s essential to note that this action did not involve any illegal substances but rather a valid prescription. Moreover, no students were implicated in the matter. Ryan Jenkins has been an employee of the South Vermilion School Corporation since 2002, and this marks the first disciplinary action in his tenure.
