Beverly Esta Akester

Beverly Esta Akester, 81, of Washington, IN, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Daviess Community Hospital in Washington.
Born October 4, 1941 in Anderson, IN, she was the daughter of the late John Harold & Mary Wilma McMillin.
She married Charles “Ralph” Akester on November 22, 1980. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2018 after 37 years of marriage. She was a loving wife, step-mother, and grandmother.
Beverly attended grade school in Indianapolis, IN, and then also a one room school house in Heathsville, IL and Oaktown, IN. She then attended high school at Oaktown High School, where she was a member graduating class of 1960.
She worked as a waitress at the Emison Truck Stop, the Queen Grille in Vincennes, sold various Avon products, worked at the Brown Shoe Co., and then Good Samaritan Hospital Samaritans Center Records Dept., for 14 years, after which she quit to help her husband on the farm.
She served with her husband for 15 years with the Gideons, and she was also a member of the First Baptist Church where she served on the Board of Christian Education, and the Library Committee.
Beverly is survived by her step-son, Roger (Barbara) Akester; step daughter, Ruth Anne Akester; grandchildren, Roger Lee Akester II (Becky), Lisa Michelle Williams (Tom), Charles Andrew Akester (Katherine); great-grandchildren, Brynna Wells, Natalie Wells, Roger Lee Akester III, Anna Kay Collins (Tucker), Reid Williams, Evelyn Akester, Charles Akester, Noah Akester, Isla Elisa Guzman, and James Lloyd Collins; sister, Mary Jeanette, Nancy Edith McMillin, Barbara D. McMillin, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brothers, John Harry McMillin, and Paul J. McMillin.
Visitation for Beverly will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home 2020 State St., Washington, IN 47501. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 10:30am at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes, IN 47591.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made the Samaritans Purse P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.
