Positive Economic Outlook and Housing Growth Discussed at Washington City Council Meeting

city-of-washington-6

While Washington’s City Council only had one item on the agenda, members heard good economic news for the city. Mayor Rhoads told the Council that the city had seen upward growth from April through August.

Daviess County is expected to see nearly 10% population growth by 2030 and needs at least 1,000 housing units to meet current needs.
As the only agenda item, the Council heard the first reading of the city’s 2024 budget ordinance. Prior to the meeting, the council held a public hearing on the budget. However, there were no public comments or questions.
The Board of Public Works and Safety met immediately following the council meeting. The Board opened bids for the advertised sale of the city’s surplus 1984 model LaFrance Pumper fire truck. The only bid received was for $250. After discussion, the board tabled consideration of the bid to gather more information.
In other business, the board approved the promotion of Washington Police Officer Staci Reese to Detective Sergeant.
