fatal-accident-5-2

On September 4, at around 7:44 p.m., a multi-vehicle accident occurred on I-69 near the 18-mile marker in the northbound lanes, resulting in one fatality. Deputies from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters from the Scott Township Fire Department (STFD) responded to the scene. Upon arrival, medics and sheriff’s deputies determined that one of the individuals involved in the crash had lost their life due to sustained injuries. The crash prompted the closure of I-69 northbound for over two hours, with traffic redirected onto Boonville-New Harmony Rd. by Indiana State Police troopers. Both drivers involved in the accident sustained minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Per state law governing serious injury or fatal crashes, chemical tests were administered to both drivers. While one driver consented to the test, the other initially refused, leading to the issuance of a warrant for testing. Results from these tests are currently pending. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, with the Coroner’s Office set to release the name of the deceased once proper notifications have been completed.
