Indiana’s On My Way Pre-K Program Expands Eligibility, Few Applications from Daviess County Families

On My Way Pre-K, Indiana’s grant-based pre-kindergarten program, is accepting applications for the 2023–2024 school year. The program offers free pre-K education to four-year-olds from low-income families. Starting July 1, the program’s eligibility expanded to include more Hoosier households. Families with an annual income of up to $45,000 for a family of four (up from $34,000) now qualify. Despite the expanded eligibility, On My Way Pre-K has received fewer than 10 applications from Daviess County families. Pre-K education plays a crucial role in developing social and learning skills, preparing children for kindergarten and beyond. Studies by Purdue University’s Center for Early Learning show that students in the On My Way Pre-K program were better prepared for kindergarten and achieved higher scores on ILEARN tests.
