Every day, approximately 37 people in the US lose their lives in drunk driving crashes, amounting to over 13,000 deaths annually, according to the NHTSA. In Indiana, driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher is illegal, and drivers under 21 with a BAC of .02 or higher face fines and potential license suspension. It’s crucial to remember that impairment includes not only alcohol but also drugs and certain over-the-counter medications. If they encounter a drunk driver on the road, motorists are encouraged to call 911.
