Debra “Debbie” Mahan passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 15, 2023 with her family by her side. Debra was born on June 4, 1960 and was the daughter of Jackie and Virginia (James) Mize. She was married to the love of her life, Thomas who preceded her in death in 2019.
Debra had worked at South Knox School Corporation for over 43 years before recently retiring. She started as a cook, fresh out of high school and then was the school’s custodian. She took great pride in her job. Debra’s life revolved around her family and cherished the time they spent together, especially the fun times she had with her grandchildren. She also liked to work on her Diamond Art which required special patience.
Survivors include her daughter, Tina (Mahan) Ramey her fiance Nicholas Barbee; sisters, Judith Culter and her husband Mike and Mary McCarter and her husband Jeremy; grandchildren, Tyler Mahan and Hayven Ramey; Isis Warren, Lorelai Barbee, and Nicholai Barbee; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Preceding Debra in death is her husband, Thomas Mahan; her parents, Jackie and Virginia Mize; and niece, Haley Hesser.
Visitation for Debra will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. The funeral service will start promptly at 2:00 pm following visitation. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Debra.
