Board of Public Works and Safety Implements “Liquid Road” for Road Preservation, Discusses Asbestos Removal, and Approves Sidewalk Renewal Applications

The Board of Public Works and Safety met following the council meeting. The Board heard a report from Street Commissioner Bryan Sergesketter on the use of a new product called “liquid road” The city is trying out the product on a few roads on the northeast side of town. Sergesketter said that if successful, the “liquid road” should help extend the life of pavement by another 8 years. Mayor Rhoads said this would help extend the work the city’s road budget can cover. Sergesketter said that liquid road applications are now covered by Indiana’s Community Crossing grants. Building Commissioner Jonathan Casper reported the building at the State Street/National Highway fork contains asbestos. The quote for removing the asbestos is $16,500. The awarding of the demolition contract was tabled until the next meeting to get all figures in writing. In other business, the board approved six applications for the cost-sharing sidewalk renewal program.
