15 year Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick will step down and will be succeeded by alumnus and NBC Sports chairman Peter Bevacqu Bevacqua will shadow Swarbrick as special assistant to the president for athletics starting in July before taking the wheel of the athletic department in the first quarter of 2024.

1967 It was announced that shortly after accepting the North Knox head basketball coaching job, Ken Gray abruptly resigned to accept the same position with the Hatchets.
1973 Loogootee wins their first IHSAA regional baseball championship 7-0 in a forfeited game. Lions were up 3-2 when pitch calls caused Washington coach Cecil Raymond to argue with home plate umpire and was ejected. Later, after the umpire Spotted Raymond in the dugout another argument insued and it was announced the game was over by forfeit.
1990 Cory Corbin pitched a 6 hitter and drove in the winning run as Barr Reeve defeated Jasper 3-1 in the baseball regional.
1997 Washington’s Dustin Barnard threw a no hitter in beating Barr-Reeve in the sectional baseball final 15-0 which followed up Morry Portee’s no hitter versus North Daviess in the semi final game.
2005 The North Daviess Softball team loses in the state title game 6-1 to Clinton Prairie. Momentum switched when it appeared the Cougs had turned a triple play but the call was reversed and the dropped pop up to catcher Kynsley Byrer was ruled an infield fly rule but was later reversed.
The Washington Football Booster club is hosting it’s annual fundraiser Friday June 9th 4-9 at the Chamber Restaurant. All tips will go to the Hatchet Football program and is an opportunity to meet the 2023 team. There will be chances to win an ultimate fan package.
