Dottie Baxter

Dottie Baxter, 95, went to her eternal home Sunday, May 14, at 9:49 a.m. on (Mother’s Day) from Villages of Oakridge in Washington. Born in Greenville, Ohio July 14, 1927, to Chester and Katherine Gower; Dottie lived much of her early life in the city of Richmond, IN.
Dottie attended several colleges and received degrees in dance, music, and percussion. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati, and Interlochen Music College in Michigan with a Masters degree in music and almost received a doctorate in music had she further pursued.
Dottie played drums with bands in the 1940’s to help pay for schooling. She was an excellent music teacher for those wanting to be a drummer.
Dottie became a school teacher in Daytona Beach, Florida, Georgia, Indianapolis, and was an interim teacher in various schools including Greensburg, Indiana.
Dottie married Charles C. Baxter Ill on August 15, 1949, in Charlton County, Georgia, who was later called by God into ministry in 1953, who became Dr. Rev. Charles C. Baxter Sr. for 66 years. Together they served the Lord.
Dottie started out leading a youth singing group called the “Christian Heirs”, she formed the “Christian Heirs 5 years later again at FBC of Greensburg, Indiana. Dottie loved puppets and took the youth to various places to perform and sing. She also taught children church, BYF, and Sunday School.
Surviving is her only remaining son Dr. Charles C. (Nancy) Baxter of Washington. He is semi-retired pastor of Christ Community Church at Fox Ridge in the Vincennes, IN.
Dottie had two grandchildren Pastor Tim Baxter (wife Michelle) of Washington, and Youth Minister Tammy Graham (Baxter), and husband Randy Graham, Fort Branch.
Dottie had 6 grandchildren: Joydyn, Will, Laynie, Grant, Chloey and Alleigh.
Dottie is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Rev. Charles C. Baxter Sr.; her son, Bobby Baxter; and her parents, Chester and Katherine Gower.
An open viewing and visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. EST on Wednesday, May 17, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN. Following there will be a private family burial service at Walnut Hills cemetery in Petersburg, IN.
