James F. “Jim” Dant

James F. “Jim” Dant, 73, passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early morning hours of May 10, 2023. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, August 20, 1949, to Howard and Agnes L. (Grannan) Dant. On May 26, 1984, he married Theresa L. “Terri” (Meadows) Dant; and together, they created a loving home for themselves and their two daughters.
A 1968 graduate of Washington Catholic High School, Jim went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War era. He was retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center (commonly known as Crane) where he worked in materials management. More recently, Jim was a driver for Ride Solutions in Washington. Jim was a member of the St. John Episcopal Church in Washington.
Jim was an animal lover (cats, dogs, horses); enjoyed bird watching; deer hunting; and was known to be an avid Indiana University Basketball fan. A devoted family man, Jim was happiest when spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play sports. He instilled in them his love of animals teaching them to feed horses and to care for all creatures.
Those who now mourn Jim’s passing include his wife, Theresa L. “Terri” Dant; his daughters, Crystal (Chuck) Ostby and Brittany (Adam) Cox, all of Washington. Jim was blessed with six grandchildren: Ashton Charles Ostby; Alton Christopher Ostby; Olivia Grace Cox; Lucille Ann Cox; Elizabeth James “Cookie” Cox; and Hazel Mae Cox. He leaves siblings: Judy (Richard) Kramer of Battle Ground; Mary Jane (Barry) Luebke of Montgomery; and Robert (Glenda) Dant in Nevada, and several nieces and nephews.
Jim knew the grief that comes with loss with the passing of his parents, Howard and Agnes Dant; and brothers, John H. Dant, Thomas Dant, and Steve Dant.
There will be no visitation.
A Memorial Service for James F. “Jim” Dant will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the St. John Episcopal Church, 509 East Walnut, Street, Washington. Vicar Dennis Latta will officiate. The Washington American Legion will accord military honors at the conclusion of the Memorial Service.
