Patrick J. Daily

Patrick J. Daily, 65, passed away at his Chicago, Illinois residence on March 1, 2023. He was born in Jasper, Indiana, on July 1, 1957, to Daniel R. and Kathleen M. (Conway) Daily.
Pat graduated from Washington Catholic High School in 1975. He then went to Vincennes University where he studied Journalism and wrote for The Trailblazer. Pat left Vincennes University to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Nimitz. He used his experiences in the Navy as an inspiration for poetry when he studied at the Indiana University School of Journalism in Bloomington. While studying at Indiana University, he won the Best Poetry Honors Thesis for his collection of poetry entitled “Navigation by Touch.” He took his winnings and went on a trip with a friend to Texas.
Patrick’s career took him to Chicago where he worked as a copy editor for the Chicago Tribune while also working as a freelance writer.
Patrick was a storyteller who enjoyed putting pen to paper sharing his views on life. He enjoyed music and played the guitar. He was a voracious reader with a large personal collection of books of eclectic genres and he enjoyed discussing any and all of them with other learned readers.
Patrick will be missed by his siblings: Julia Thomas of Plainville, Maureen (Mark) Strange of Washington, Margaret Daily of Washington, and Kevin (Anna) Daily of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. His many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who always thought fondly of the “mysterious” Uncle Pat will miss him and will share his stories.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Kathleen Daily; brother, P. James Daily; brother-in-law, Rex Thomas; and nieces, Kristen Kellar and Erika Daily.
Visitation for Patrick J. Daily will be held 10:00-11:00 am, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Washington.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Father Paul Ferguson and Father Juan Ramirez will be co-celebrants. Deacon Kevin Daily will give the Homily.
Interment will follow in the St. John Cemetery.
