The Loogootee Community School Corporation held a special meeting last night for the second of two public hearings pursuant to state code to discuss and hear objections and support for proposed renovation and new construction projects. Prior to the public hearing, under personnel, Dr. Brian Harmon recommended the board accept the retirement of Chris Walker as middle/high school principal effective at the end of the current school year.
The board then received information on the assessment and financials for the proposed renovation and new construction projects. Three patrons spoke, with two offering objections to the project, questioning the fiscal responsibilities and tax burden while the school corporation just recently leveled out from a steadily declining enrollment.
The Board approved the adoption of a resolution making a preliminary determination to enter into a lease agreement relating to the projects and to issue bonds to finance the projects. The board also approved the potential adoption of a Declaration of Official Intent to Reimburse Expenditures.
Under other business, the board approved the 2023–2024 Aramark Contract. And finally, the board accepted the donation of $2,192.50 from Dana and Cheryl Strange for the purpose of purchasing warm-up uniforms for the high school track team.
