The Daviess County Commissioners got a report on the Montgomery Bridge project, approved grant applications, and heard an update on the design phase of the courthouse renovation at Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting.
Daviess County Highway Superintendent Chris Winkler reviewed the progress on the Montgomery overhead bridge replacement and told the commissioners that the bridge project is still on schedule for a late October completion. Winkler also told the commissioners that the county has received notice that planned upgrades for County Roads 900 E and 1200 N have received Community Crossings grants from the state. Winkler hopes to receive bids on the projects at the May 23 commissioners meeting.
The Commissioners also gave permission to Daviess County Corrections to apply for a $314,000 state operating grant and approved a request from the Assessor’s office for a contract for cyclical reassessment of real property.
In other business, the commissioners received the resignation of Richard Cane from the Veale Township Fire Board. The Commissioners also approved the appointment of Robert Wildman as Cane’s replacement.
At the end of the meeting, the commissioners received an update on the courthouse renovation from representatives of RQAW. The commissioners were shown up-to-date schematics of the interior space usage along with samples of potential floor coverings. RQAW also discussed replacing the courthouse’s 96-year-old windows with replacement windows that meet DNR specifications.
The commissioners’ next meeting is scheduled for May 9.
