Indiana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction Praises Washington High School’s Innovative Programs

Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, toured Washington High School Wednesday afternoon and gave the Washington Schools high marks. Dr. Jenner visited with students and teachers about how the Washington schools work to give students skills to succeed in life after high school, whether they go straight into the workforce or attend vocational training or college.
During the tour of WHS, juniors Aleida Sanchez and Xavier Frank Dr. Jenner talked about early college and work-place internship opportunities for WHS students. Dr. Jenner was impressed with the WHS biomedical, science, ROTC, and robotics programs in conjunction with Project Lead the Way. When she saw WHS students working on the new Z-Space 3-D computer programs, Dr. Jenner said it was the first Z-Space program she had seen in Indiana schools.
Dr. Jenner said that Washington High School was not only welcoming but had hallways filled with hope. She praised WHS for offering early college and employment opportunities in conjunction with area businesses and industries and noted that these pathways extended down through the junior high and elementary programs.
At the end of the tour, Dr. Jenner heard from local and area leaders who told her about how K-12 education in Washington is important to economic development and attracting new business and industry.
