Loogootee softball were winners on Monday night. Allie Henninger was in the circle and struck out 5 only giving up 1 run on 3 hits and the lone Orleans run was a leadoff the game homer. Henninger and Sydney Wittmer led the offensive attack with 3 hits apiece and Mylee Hembree had a 3 run double in the 12-1 rout.
The North Daviess Cougars defeated the Washington Hatchets 16-0. The Cougar attack had 16 hits. Lily Graber took the ball for ND and limited Washington to just 3 hits.
The Barr Reeve Vikings got a hard fought 4-2 win over Springs Valley. Grace Butcher had 3 hits for the Vikings and threw a complete game 5 hitter for the #2 ranked Barr Reeve squad.
In Tennis it was Barr Reeve picking up a 5-0 win versus Washington Catholic. Briley Furman, Beth Graber and Brynlee Rollins won in singles while the doubles teams of Sydney Swartzentruber and Dylan Decoursey and Allie Jo Robinson and Claire Harrison also win.
On the golf course in Linton Eastern Greene came out on top in a tri meet with a 186, North Daviess shot a 201 and WRV came in with a 206.
In some high school basketball news this Sunday the 32nd HBCA All-Star Games at the Cougar Den. Washington’s Brycen Neideigh, Loogootee’s Peyton Bledsoe joins North Daviess Cougar senior Jaylen Mullen who will play one more game inside the Den as a member of the
West Region All-Star team. The girls’ game will begin at 2:15 p.m. with the boys to follow around 4:00 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door and are good for both games – cost is $8 per person.
Also on the West All-Star squad are Mr Basketball candidate Joey Hart and his teammate Logan Webb, Linton-Stockton, Peter Combs of Bloomfield, JQ Roberts of Bloomington North, Blake Herdes Evansville Mater Dei, Colton Leach BNL, Cale Donoho South Spencer, Wes Aigner, Castle, and Tyler Myers, from Evansville Day School.
 
 
Katie Gearlds and Purdue women’s basketball are making changes on the coaching staff and bringing in a familiar face in the process. Purdue has hired former Boilermaker guard Kelly Komara as the program’s new associate head coach. Komara replaces Beth Couture, who retired from coaching after seven seasons with the Boilermakers.
Sprint car driver Justin Owen died of injuries he suffered during a horrific crash in which his car was tossed multiple times during a race at the Lawrenceburg Indiana Speedway. The racer who was just 26, from Harrison, Ohio, was competing in a qualifying race Saturday night when he drifted high into the third turn, lost control, and struck the outside wall.
A Babe Ruth bat from the 1920 and 1921 seasons was sold for a record price at. The bat was sold for a record $1.85 million. The purchaser is the “only known example to offer photographic corroboration” with the purchase, too. The bat was matched to a 1921 photo of Ruth using it during the season. The bat was last purchased at auction in 2018 for just more than $400,000, and it was estimated then that the bat was used between 1920 and 1922. It was later matched to the photo, which narrowed the time frame and increased the bat’s value.
 
University of Indianapolis baseball standout Brady Ware had one epic day last Friday. Ware made history by throwing a no-hitter and hitting for a cycle against Drury University. He became the first baseball player, collegiate or professional, to have a no-hitter and cycle in the same game.
On Sunday, the Boston Bruins broke the record for most wins in a NHL regular season, notching their 63rd victory of the 2022-23 campaign .Boston became the third team in league history to register 130 points in a joining the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens and 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings. They’re only one point shy of equaling the record for most points in a season (1976-77 Canadiens, 132 points). The Bruins also recorded their 30th road win of the season to become the third team to accomplish the feat.
