Knox County Commissioners Take First Step to Remove the County Coroner

The first step to remove the embattled Knox County Coroner, Karen Donovan, from office was taken yesterday.
The Knox County Commissioners passed a resolution Tuesday, calling for the judicial removal of Karen Donovan.   Knox County officials say that for more than a year,  they have received complaints about Donovan not going to work, not communicating with other public officials and the public, improper record keeping, along with other complaints about Donovan’s work in the Coroner’s office.   Knox County officials announced last month that the action was coming as a result of Donovan’s alleged failure to execute her duties.
In addition, the Indiana State Police began an investigation in April of last year, into the accusations of refusal or neglect to perform the duties of her elected office.   All of this information was released before Donovan was facing criminal charges.   Last month Donovan was arrested for drug possession as well as official misconduct.
The President of the Knox County Commissioners, Kellie Streeter, said the action was necessary because Donovan refuses to resign her position.
The Knox County Commissioners will now forward their resolution to the County Council set to  meet on April 11.
