Daviess County Highway Superintendent Chris Winkler says that the Montgomery overhead bridge will be closed beginning Monday. Winkler gave the Daviess County Commissioners a report on the project at Tuesday morning’s meeting. Winkler said that Railroad Street on the north side of the bridge has been realigned to handle traffic, and demolition of the bridge will begin as soon as CSX gives its approval.
The Commissioners also heard Vanessa Phillips give a report on the IRACS program at the County Security Center. Phillips told the commissioners that in its first 10 months of existence, 500 individuals had enrolled in the program. While still early in the process, Phillips says an evaluation by the state shows an 80% 30-day post release success rate for the program. Phillips also said that 25 other counties are interested in emulating the program.
In regular business, the Commissioners approved a request from County Clerk Lauren Milton for $400 in rent to use the Washington Armory as a vote center for the primary election and early voting. Daviess County will be transitioning from the old precinct-based voting locations to voting centers beginning with this year’s municipal election. The Commissioners also approved Chief Deputy Steve Sturgis’s request to apply for the annual renewal of the Department of Natural Resources Marine Patrol Grant. The funds will be used at Boggs Park.
The next regular Commissioners meeting is scheduled for April 11 at 9:00 a.m.
