Sixty-nine Indiana high school seniors — 36 boys and 33 girls — have been chosen as first-team Academic All-State for 2023 by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
The IBCA Academic All-State program is one where academic and athletic prowess both are considered in the selections. Items such as grade-point average, academic class rank and SAT scores are considered along with athletic performance in areas such as points per game, rebounds per game and assists per game.
The IBCA has selected an Academic All-State team for boys since 1973 and the girls since 1980.
Area boys’ first-team players for 2023 are: Lance Wilson and Logan Wilson from North Daviess. On the court the Wilson’s combined for 24 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Cougars.
Area girls’ first-team player was Mya Cline, Washington Catholic who on the court averaged 13.9 points per game for WC.
Former Louisville standout and longtime NBA center Felton Spencer died Sunday of a heart attack caused by an undiagnosed condition. Spencer, a Louisville native played for the Cardinals from 1986-1990, was he #6 overall pick in the 1990 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He returned home after retiring in 2002 and worked as an assistant coach at Spalding University and Bellarmine University in the area. Felton Spencer was only 55 years old.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo plans to sign with the Las Vegas Raiders, sources told NFL Insider Chip Jamerson.
