Hazel Marion Lewis

Hazel Marion Lewis, 100, of Shoals, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Care Strategies in Loogootee.
Born May 9, 1922 in Clermont County, Ohio, she was the daughter of Loyd and Marie (Osborne) Conover.
She married Leroy E. Lewis on November 3, 1945 in Goshen, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on October 22, 2006.
Hazel graduated from Blanchester High School in Ohio. In 1957, Leroy and Hazel moved to Indiana where she became a part of the Shoals Community. She was a farm housewife and homemaker; cook at Shoals Community School, Gentle Care Nursing Home, and Velma’s diner. Hazel loved farming, gardening, and playing cards. She was a member of Shoals Methodist Church, Grange, Rusk Homemakers, Farm Bureau, Hoosier Uplands, and volunteered at the Seniors Citizen’s Center in Shoals. Hazel had a very strong sense of community.
Surviving are her 6 children, Daniel J. (Alice) Lewis, of Shoals, Ernest L. (Jill) Lewis of Shoals, Marianne G. (Don) Burgan, of Shoals, Cynthia L. Lewis-Carithers, of Shoals, Martin F. Lewis, of Loogootee, and Melissa B. (Troy) Pride, of Washington and daughter-in-law, Karen Lewis, of Ohio; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; several-great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Polly Rose, Donald (Irene) Conover, Anne Osborne, Peggy Acuff, and Virginia Rapp; sister-in-law, Judy Conover; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy; son, David Lewis; grandson, Davey Lewis; siblings, Carl Conover, Lloyd Conover, and Neil Conover; daughter-in-law, Marcia Lewis; son-in-law, Ed Carithers; brothers-in-law, Arthur Rose, Ron Acuff, and Bob Rapp; and sister-in-law, Jo Ann Conover.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care with Pastor Marty Evans officiating. Burial will be in Waggoners Chapel.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Tuesday at the Queen-Lee Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Waggoners Chapel or the Waggoners Chapel Cemetery Board.
