Young Man Arrested in Jasper For Beating Officers and Hospital Staff

A man was arrested and charged with several offenses after an incident in Jasper. According to reports, on 2/25/2023 at approximately 11:20 a.m., police were called to investigate a suspicious male subject whose vehicle was parked in a field behind the Vincennes University Jasper Campus. When police arrived at the scene, they found that the man had abandoned his vehicle and was walking southbound on University Drive. Officers were able to locate the man at the intersection of Gun Club Road and Woodlawn Drive, where he was identified as Joseph Roy, 19, of Downey, California. Upon further investigation, police discovered that Roy had driven his vehicle from Maplecrest Blvd through the field where it was found. He was taken to Memorial Hospital for medical clearance, but while there, he reportedly battered both hospital staff and a law enforcement officer. Roy now faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, battery, resisting law enforcement, escape, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, intimidation, and disorderly conduct.
