Investigation Continues Into Fatal Fire at 3rd and Main St. in Washington

Washington fire crews responded to a fatal fire Friday morning at 3rd and Main in downtown Washington. Crews were called around 9 a.m. to the former Hideaway Tavern, which is now apartment buildings. When crews arrived, smoke was coming from the windows and front door. Residents in the upstairs apartment were able to escape, but a woman in the lower level lost her life in the blaze. The deceased’s name is still being withheld at this time. Smoke damage was also reported in the adjacent buildings. There was no cause for the blaze yet, and city firemen received help from Vincennes with their ladder truck. The investigation continues.
