Washington’s City Council had a short agenda for its regular meeting Monday evening. Before the Council meeting, Mayor Rhoads administered the oath of office to Washington’s newest police officer, Cameron Meade. Meade is a Washington native and has previous law enforcement experience with the Knox and Daviess County Sheriff’s Departments. The item on the agenda was the final reading of an ordinance to correct a mistake in a decade-old ordinance that quoted two industrial waste rates. The second item was the introduction of an ordinance rescinding a recent ordinance sealing the city’s capital asset policy. The ordinance was recommended by the State Board of Accounts, but the city found the policy complicated accounting for the Utility Department and decided to return to its original policy. The Council then heard the introduction of an ordinance realigning jobs within the Park, Waste Water, and MS4 departments. In other business, the council heard a report from Randy Ennius and Jeff Lemon with the Electric Department. Based on an increase of between 400 and 500 percent for transformers, poles, and other equipment, Ennius and Lemon asked the Council to examine current policy and practices with regard to contractors and developers.
Following the council meeting, the board of public works and safety met. Board members approved a request from First Choice Solutions to close the alley behind their building on West Walnut from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 15. The Board also approved an agreement for services with Midwestern Engineers for a Wastewater Treatment Plant (NPDES). The Board also approved a change order for IMPA for engineering services for the relocation of utilities along old U.S. 50.
