Carol M. Templin

Carol M. Templin, 87, passed away at 6:44 am on February 9, 2023, at The Villages at Oakridge. Carol was born on January 7, 1936, in Mishawaka, IN and she is the daughter of Ronald and Clara (Micinski) Shafer. Carol married James R. Templin on September 1, 1956, and he survives.
 
Carol was a faithful member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and served on various committees at the church. She was proud of the fact that she was the first female eucharistic minister at St. Simon Catholic Church. Carol was involved in Washington Catholic schools in several capacities, always volunteering her time and talents. In her early years, she was a nurse’s aide at the hospital and later years was employed at the WC middle school cafeteria. Both Carol and Jim were in the 1954 graduating class at WCHS. She was a wonderful cook/baker and hostess. Aside from being an incredible, fun grandma, she was extremely creative with crafts and flower arranging, crocheting and sewing. She was especially proud of the paper twist dolls she made. Most importantly, Carol had an unwavering faith and was devoted to her family and friends whom she loved very much. She had a witty sense of humor. She loved to laugh and make others laugh as well.
 
Survivors include her husband, Jim Templin of Washington; her children, Jim Templin III and his wife Jill of Vincennes, John Templin and his wife Karen of Troy, OH, Joe Templin and his wife Jennifer of Lebanon, OH, Julie Purdue and her husband Jeff of Chandler, IN; her grandchildren, Caroline, Zach, and Ben Templin, Jordan and Justine Templin, Lizzy Niehaus and her husband Kyle, Emily John, and Jake Purdue, Conner and Owen Templin, Grace Bryant and her husband Erik, Hannah Jolly and her husband Jay, Maddie Wempe; her great grandchildren, Millie Bryant and Carson Niehaus, and her son-in-law, Pat Wempe of Newburgh, IN. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Clara Shafer, sister, Connie Shafer, brother, Ron Shafer, and her daughter, Janet Templin-Wempe.
 
Friends may visit with Carol’s family from 4-8 pm on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 315 NE 3rd St., Washington, IN 47501. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Our Lady of Hope with Rev. Paul Ferguson and Yvonne Evans celebrating. Carol will be laid to rest in St. John Cemetery. The Templin family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Washington Catholic Endowment Fund or Knights of Columbus 630, 319 Main St., Washington, IN 47501.
