Washington will have one contested race in the upcoming May primary election. In City Council District 1, Republican incumbent Darin Lunsford will face challenger Scott Rainey. Also adding his name to the ballot before the deadline was Jerry Sidebottom, who will face Mayor Dave Rhoads in the General Election. All other open seats will be uncontested.
In Loogootee, there will be a couple of contested races in the primary. Mayor Noel Harty will face a primary challenger on the Democratic ticket, Teresa Nolley. The winner will then meet Republican Brian Ader in the General Election. Three Democrats will be on the ballot for Loogootee City Council at Large, and they include J.D. Flynn, Ronald Gilbert, and Lonnie Hawkins. Buck Holland will be the lone Republican seeking the Council at Large seat. In the Loogootee General Election, the Clerk and Treasurer Seat and Council District 2 will have contested races later this year.
