The WJHS 8th grade boys basketball team (13-9) finished its regular season Monday night with a 57-40 loss to Forest Park. The Hatchets were led in scoring by Aiden Boyd with 18 points followed by Levi Burkemper with 10. Jack Brower had 5, Brody Armes 3, Caleb Bouchie and Drew Jones each had 2. 
The Hatchets will have a couple weeks off before returning to action in the annual Hatchet Classic Feb 10th, 11th & 12th.  

The Barr Reeve 8th grade boys hosted Shoals in the opening round of the Blue Chip Conference tournament, and won 47-18. The Vikings were led in scoring by Ben Lester with ten points. The Vikings head to Northeast Dubois to play the rest of the conference tournament Saturday.

The Barr-Reeve 6th grade girls basketball team beat Northeast Dubois on Monday night 18-13 to move to 10-6 for the season. Joslyn Knepp led Barr-Reeve in scoring with 8 points followed by Avery Wittmer with 7. Barr-Reeve finishes their season next Monday night at home against Pike Central.

For the second time this season, Indiana forward Mackenzie Holmes and guard Yarden Garzon have swept the weekly Big Ten awards as Holmes is Co-Big Ten Player of the Week with Iowa guard Caitlin Clark and Garzon is Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Holmes has now raked in four career Big Ten weekly honors tying for the second most of any Hoosier in program history. Garzon now becomes the fifth Hoosier to earn multiple freshman honors.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is chasing the regular season all-time scoring record held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Abdul-Jabbar scored 38,387 career points and has held the record since April 1984, eight months before James was born.
James is 117 points from claiming the record. His career scoring average is 27.2 ppg with his 2022-23 season average at 30.2 ppg. At this season’s pace, James would set the record on Feb. 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder
