Cheryl Frances (Wissing) Stiles

Cheryl Frances (Wissing) Stiles, 76, passed away at her residence at 4:33 pm on January 28, 2023 with her loving family by her side. Cheryl is referred to as Cheri and Meme by her family and friends. She was born on December 15, 1946, in Vincennes and is the daughter of Thomas Oliver and Mary Lee (Mayhall) Wissing. Cheri married Gary Stiles on March 10, 1967, and they have celebrated fifty-five years of marriage.
Cheri graduated from St. Rose Academy and worked for twenty-one years in the banking industry and twenty years in Knox County Government. She worked for five years in the Knox County Auditors Office and retired from the Knox County Highway Department after being there for fifteen years. Cheri was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as President and held other offices while volunteering on several veteran service projects. She was a twenty-five year member of the American Business Women Association. She was an honorary member of the Marine Corps League Detachment 1007 and volunteered with the Toys for Tots program. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, and playing cards with her friends. Most importantly though, Cheri enjoyed spending time and playing games with her family, and watching her grandchildren participate in their many activities and sports. She and Gary loved rescuing cats. Over the years, she has attended St John’s Catholic Church and Wabash Community Church.
 
Survivors include her husband Gary Stiles of Vincennes; daughters, Denise Welfel and her husband Ronny of Vincennes, Deborah Wright and her husband Vince of Muncie, IN; her grandchildren, Ashton (Welfel) Kundu and her husband Neal of Chicago, IL, Luke Welfel of Vincennes, Aleah, Brynn, and Corah Wright of Muncie, IN; a great grandson Kundu to be born in June; her siblings, Sandy Smith of Covington, IN, Michael Wissing and his wife Judy of Spring, TX; as well as many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. Cheri is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Mary Wissing.
Friends may visit with Cheri’s family from 10:00 am until the hour of service time of 12:00 pm. on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN. Cheri’s funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm at the conclusion of visitation and Pastors Dale Biehl and Rusty Thorne will officiate. The family has requested memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to be directed to Wabash Community Church, 1033 N. 10th St., Vincennes, IN 4759 or Vincennes Pet Port, 1128 River Rd., Vincennes, IN 47591.
