Martha F. Carter, 91, of Petersburg, Indiana, was surrounded by her family as she entered Heaven on December 19, 2022. She was born in Orlinda, Tennessee on November 23, 1931, to Fay and Willie-Anne Lane.
Martha married John “Joe” Carter on February 21, 1948. They faithfully served together in ministry for over 45 years and were lifelong best friends. They were blessed with two children: Gary (preceded in death) and Sandra (Carter) Phillips. Martha was known for her generous spirit. She loved the simple things in life like cooking, gardening and spending time with her family, friends and church-family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 74 years, Joe Carter; daughter Sandra (Carter) Phillips; sister Lillie Mae (Lane) Rippy; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and the hundreds of people she humbly served at her kitchen table.
A celebration of Martha’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Jesus Christ Our Firm Foundation Church (formerly Voice of Believers Ministry) at 1415 N. Vincennes Ave, Petersburg, Indiana. Burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery with Pastor Denny Wiscaver officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 12:30 until service time.
