On Saturday the Washington Hatchet wrestling team opened their season with a 3rd place finish in the 7 team Vincennes Invitational. Going 3 and 2 as a team with wins over North Knox, Oblong and Olney Illinois while dropping matches to Vincennes and Terre Haute South. Good day for the Hatchets as every wrestler got at least one individual win. Hatchets next hit the mat on Wednesday at Princeton and the North Knox Invite on Saturday.
The Washington Lady Hatchets drop a good matchup versus Linton Stockton on Saturday by a score of 44-40. Lady Hatchets now 3 and 3 on the season and travel to Evansville Memorial tomorrow evening.
On Friday Night the Washington Hatchets boys team followed up their pre thanksgiving win over Barr Reeve to defeat North Posey 65-56 at the Hatchet House. WHS was led by Dalton Thurston with 15 points and 14 each from Colton Stowers and Brycen Neidigh. Hatchets now 2 and 0 on the season and host the Southridge Raiders on Friday in a PAC game.
On Tuesday night 5’11” senior point guard Jaylen Mullen drained his first shot to join ND’s 1,000 point club. And on Saturday night, Mullen dished out a career-high 14 assists, one off the school record, in a 57-46 victory against 4A Terre Haute North at Rose-Hulman’s Hulbert Arena. North Daviess meets unbeaten 1A ranked Evansville Christian on Sat. December 3rd at 7 pm EST on the Johnson Center floor at Oakland City University in the team’s next outing.
The Barr Reeve Vikings boys squad bounced back from the pre Thanksgiving defeat to the Hatchets and jump out on Clay City 19-0 after 1 quarter and never looked back in a 52-32 win. Donnie Miller leads the way with 17 points and Seth Wagler chips in 14. Vikings next outing is Saturday at Orleans
The Loogootee Lions were in tournament action at Jack Butcher Arena on Saturday and came away with 1 win and 1 loss. In the morning contest Lions win in a route 75-46 over Evansville Day School and in the evening title tilt they lose a tough one 60-51 over a hot shooting Evansville Christian squad. After going 0 for 5 from behind the arc in the first quarter EC gets hot and hits 11 of 18 long ones in quarters 2-4. Lions hitting the road this weekend, they are at Wood Memorial on Friday night and Jasper on Saturday night.
