The Washington Lady Hatchets rebound from a lackluster start both to the season and in this game and then erupt for 46 second half points 61-34 route of a very good South Knox team. The game was tied at 15 at the half and Coach Gretchen Miles switched to a pressure full court defense and took South Knox out of their game plan with 47 pass deflections.  The Lady Hatchets rode hot shooting  with 7 out of 10 from behind the arc.   Washington was led by Senior Chloe Browning with 18 points and Shay Hawk added 11 for the Lady Hatchets who run their record to 1 and 1. Ella Bobe continues her hot hand for South Knox with 20 points.
JV also got the win 31-4 in a two quarter contest.

The Loogootee Lady Lions got off to a delayed start on this hoops season because of Tecumseh’s volleyball team still being alive.  The Lady Lions opened up last night at Jack Butcher arena and dropped a low scoring affair to Eastern Greene 27-24. Junior Emily Hawkins led Loogootee in scoring with 10 points.  There was no JV contest in this one.

The Barr Reeve Lady Vikings got off to a good start on the 22-23 as they won a hard fought battle with the Orleans Bulldogs in a 41-38 battle.  Sophomore Hannah Bledsoe led a balanced Viking scoring attack with 11 points, Beth Graber had 9 and Colleen Trambaugh had 8 with back to back baskets late to give the Lady Vikings the lead. Barr Reeve also won the JV game 40-26.

The 11th ranked IU Women wins in convincing fashion in their first contest of the year.  Teri Morens squad tops Vermont 86-49 at Assembly Hall.  the 6’3 Freshman guard from Israel Yarden Garzon led IU in scoring with 19 points.  Gracer Berger led in rebounds and assists with 8 each and Sidney Parrish led with 4 steals.

The Purdue get off to a fast start for the season with an 84 53 win over Milwaukee. Freshman guard from Ft Wayne Fletcher Loyer leads the Boilers in scoring with 17 points and Zach Edney pulled down 17 big rebounds.

Ex-UFC champ Cain Velasquez out on bail in attempted murder case.  Valasquez was granted $1 million bail Tuesday after eight months in custody. The former UFC heavyweight champion is being charged with attempted murder and 10 other gun-related charges in Santa Clara County (Calif.). Velasquez is being accused of chasing down a man, Harry Goularte, in his vehicle and shooting at him. Goularte is being charged with sexually assaulting a young relative of Velasquez. And the UFC fighter said in a civil lawsuit filed in June that Goularte molested Velasquez’s 4-year-old son.

Things have certainly gotten interesting in Indianapolis. The Colts have an interim head coach who has never coached above the high school level, and now they have a playcaller who has never previously performed his new role. Passing game specialist/assistant quarterbacks coach Parks Frazier will assume playcalling duties for the team under interim head coach Jeff Saturday, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday. The news was first reported by NFL Network. Jeff Saturday said during a news conference that he had been interviewing current staff members throughout the day to determine who might be the best fit to be the playcaller. The role was previously held by former head coach Frank Reich, who was fired by the team on Monday.

The Indiana Pacers who have won 4 out of theri last 5 coming off a thrilling 129-122 win over New Orleans on Monday night are at home tonight hosting the Denver Nuggets.  The Pacers have now clawed their way back to .500 with a 5 and 5 record.
