Doris Loyd

Doris Loyd, 85, passed away at her Washington residence in the early morning hours of October 22, 2022. She was born in Washington, January 26, 1937, to Charles Eugene and Nora Belle (Akers) Burris. On January 26, 1957, Doris married Thomas Gordon Loyd and they made their life together until his passing on October 11, 2012.
Doris was formerly employed at Walmart where she worked in the Health and Beauty Aids department. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary. An avid card player, Doris loved to play “Burris Rummy” with her brothers, sisters, their families, and anyone else who felt brave enough to take a seat at her table. She enjoyed visits and trips with her sisters…especially when they visited casinos.
Those who mourn Doris’ passing include her daughter, Michele (Todd) Church; grandchildren: Ty (Bridget Baxter) Church; and Sierra Church, all of Washington; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Loyd of Washington; five great-grandchildren: BriLee Tharp; Josie Church; Ali Baxter; Jameson Church; and Wren Church. Coming from a large family, Doris leaves several siblings: Randy (Sandy) Burris of Washington; Glenn Burris of Washington; Norma Mercker of Dublin, Ohio; Carolyn Sue Brooks of Fountain City; Sharon (Gary) Garabrant of Brownsburg; and Joseph Burris of Daytona Beach, Florida. She also leaves several beloved nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to send a special “thank you” to Roseanna Graber for the wonderful care she provided to Doris, and also to the Helping Hearts Hospice for their compassionate nursing care and support.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Nora Burris; husband, Thomas Gordon Loyd; son, Gregory Loyd; grandson, Joshua Church; siblings: Carl Burris; Ray Burris; Harold Burris; James L. Burris; Charles “Junior” Burris; and Gilbert Burris.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Helping Hearts Hospice, c/o Daviess Community Hospital, 1314 East Walnut Street, Washington, Indiana 47501.
Visitation for Doris Loyd will be 11:00 am-1:00 pm, Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington.
Funeral services for Doris Loyd will begin at 1:00 pm, immediately following the visitation, also at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary. Pastor Joe Coquillard will officiate.
Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery
