In volleyball action, The Loogootee Lady Lions win a big one at Southridge taking game one   25-11.    Losing games 2 and 3  but then came back to win games four and five 25-18 and 15-12. It’s Barr Reeve in Loogootee on Thursday night at Jack Butcher arena
The Washington Hatchets traveled to the New Viking Arena to take on the Lady Vikings. It was Barr Reeve, in this one, winning in 3 sets sequentially, 25, 9, 10 and 11. Hatchets next action is tonight versus Loogootee and then travelling to Forest Park on Thursday. Vikings next action will be a big one as they travel to play the Lady Lions in Loogootee on Thursday. Barr Reeve takes the JV contest also, two games to zero.
The North Daviess Cougars hosted Evansville Harrison in the Cougar Den, but it was Evansville Harrison that came out on top in three sets. Harrison, 25-19. 29-27. 25-12.  The Cougars host Linton on Thursday in a big SWIAC conference game.
Washington Junior High volleyball traveled to Mt. Vernon on Monday. Both the 7th and the 8th came home with victories.  7th grade won 25-8, 25-12. 8th grade won 25-20, 19-25, 15-11.  Both teams travel to North Knox today.
The Washington Hatchet JV Football team traveled to Cougar Valley last night to take on North Daviess.  Washington picked up the victory, 22-0.
The Barr Reeve Viking soccer team traveled to South Knox to challenge the Spartans on their home turf. The Vikings fell just short 3-2 after fighting back from a 2-0 deficit at the half.  The Vikings are back on the road to Bloomfield on Thursday, and all BR soccer teams (both HS and MS) travel to WRV on Saturday.
The Washington Catholic girls varsity soccer team had a match against the 5-2 White River Valley Wolverines on Monday night and won 4-2. WC Seniors Mya Cline and Brynna Hunter each scored two goals for the Cardinals in the win.
The Washington Hatchet Boys and Girls Soccer teams play a doubleheader tonight at Jasper.  The girls are up first at 5:30pm, with the boys game to follow.  Catch both games tonight beginning at 5:15pm on Memories 107.9fm
 
On the tennis courts Monday evening, North Daviess recognized five class of 2023 team members in a home tennis match versus Evansville Christian. Seniors, Jaylen Mullen , Dominic Schultz Brycen Skinner and the doubles duo of Colin Kemp in Brecklin Byrer were each victorious in straight sets, as was the junior, number two doubles pairing of Cam, Sassano and Max Toy.  The cougars dominated 5 to 0 and improve their season slate to 17 and one.  They travel to South Knox tomorrow before hosting the annual SWIAC singles and doubles tourneys on Thursday with the finals on Saturday morning. All the area tennis teams starting to prepare for next weeks sectional .
Barr Reeve boys tennis played in the Vincennes Tennis Invitational over the weekend.and racked up 19 team points to capture the invitational title..
And what a dominating tournament it was for the Vikings:
#1 Singles Donnie Miller went 2-0 to win the 1 singles tournament
#2 Singles Xavier Meiring went 2-0 to win the 2 singles tournament
#3 Singles Alex Guinn went 2-0 to win the 3 singles tournament
#1 Doubles duo of Isaac Madison and Ethan Stoll also went 2-0 to win the 1 doubles tournament
#2 Doubles duo of Brody Swartzentruber and Levi Lester went 1-1 to come in 2nd in the 2 doubles tournament
The Vikings will finish off their regular season with matches at Tecumseh today and home against Evansville Christian on Thursday.
Princeton native Jackie Young is now a member of an elite sorority. And she gained her ticket in dramatic fashion.
The former Notre Dame women’s basketball star and current Las Vegas Aces guard won her first WNBA title, downing the Connecticut Sun 78-71. The Aces won the series 3-1 en route to the first championship in program history. It is also the city of Las Vegas’ first major professional title. Jackie has now achieved  “triple crown” status — a WNBA title, an NCAA national championship and an Olympic gold medal. Young won the 2018 national title with the Irish and was a 2020 Olympic gold medalist in the 3×3 in Tokyo.
Frank Reich called it “pathetic.” Nyheim Hines described it as “embarrassing.” Whatever adjective you want to use for the Colts’ Week 2 24-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field, it was not what the team expected would happen on Sunday, nor was it an acceptable result for the players and coaches who participated in it.
The Colts were  out-played, out-coached, and out-executed from top to bottom,” defensive tackle DeForest Buckner said.
Head Coach Frank Reich said the team will go back to evaluating everything from top to bottom. The Colts better zero in on those evaluations because the road just gets tougher as they are at home at 1pm on Sunday vs the 2 and 0 Chiefs.
Indiana junior placekicker Charles Campbell was named the Big Ten Player of the Week in the Special Teams category. He notched his second career four-field goal game to tie the program single-game record in Indiana’s 33-30 overtime victory over Western Kentucky.  Campbell’s  51-yard field goal to win the game, was his fourth career make from 50-plus yards and Indiana’s first walk-off field goal since 2016.  His four field goals tied for the most in the FBS in Week Three and he was one of four place kickers to convert a 50-plus yard field goal
The Mets are on track to have baseball’s highest payroll for the first time since 1989, among a record-tying six teams set to pay a penalty for spending. New York entered the last full month of the season with a $273.9 million payroll, The Dodgers are second at $267.2 million, followed by the New York Yankees at $254.4 million.
