Early Courthouse Construction Proposals High in Price

The Washington Times Herald tells us that the Daviess County Council and Commissioners met for a joint meeting to review early proposals for the courthouse construction project. Representatives from the architectural firm QRAW presented a trio of plans. The reason for the new courthouse is the long-term need for more space. The current court does not meet ADA regulations.
The options presented for spaces with 13,000 sq ft ranged around $20 million, which was disagreed upon by commissioners and council members. An idea was presented to incorporate some of the courthouse space into the basement of the new annex.
The members agreed that 13,000 sq ft was a number that could be brought down. The officials note that it is still early in the process and they are searching for better alternatives. Council President Matt Meredith said this is the officials first time seeing these most of the numbers, and they want to bring them down.
