Washington’s students have been in session for two weeks, and at last night’s meeting, school board members heard that the new school year is off to a smooth start. Superintendent Kevin Frank said that things had gone smoothly for the first two weeks.
Frank also said that the participation of the Washington Community in the Tunnel of Hope at the four elementary schools was important.
Transportation Director Kevin Byrer told the board that the buses have been running smoothly from the first day. Byrer also said that, unlike in previous years, the need for students to transfer buses has been eliminated for 90% of Washington’s bus riders.
In other business, the Board approved hiring Trinity Jones as an elementary aide, approved several ECA appointments, and approved out-of-state trips for the NJROTC air rifle team and for the Beta Club Leadership Competition. The Board also approved the purchase of a new floor-top aid condition unit for the high school-junior high complex. The Board also amended the use of facilities policy to regulate the use of school parking lots by food trucks. The amendment will allow schools to avoid conflict between school activities and the food trucks using the lots. The Board voted to raise pay to $85/day for regular substitute teachers, $95 per day for subs with a teachers certificate, and $105/day for teachers who have retired from the Washington schools.
